A Message from the East London Health & Social Care Partnership
Junior Doctor Industrial Action 13-16 March
As you may be aware, junior doctors will be taking part in a 72-hour strike from 13-16 March which will affect services across north-east London, both in the lead up to and in the days following the strikes.
We are working hard, along with our partners in the wider health and care system, to put in place contingency measures to continue to keep patients safe during any industrial action.
However, our services will be under increased pressure, so it is vital that people only send residents to hospital or call 999 if they have a life-threatening condition or have exhausted all other community support services.
It is important that patients continue to attend appointments, unless advised that it will be rescheduled.
We are committed to helping you keep your residents safe and support you as best as possible under these challenging circumstances.
We have attached a copy of the Care Directory/ Alternative Care Pathways as a reminder to your workforce of the support available.
We would ask that you only call 999 for life threatening conditions.
Paid Peer Mentorship Job Opportunity from DWP
Paid “Peer Mentors” (comparable in practice to CGL Recovery Champions and Recovery Motivators employed across other services) will deliver time-limited mentoring support which inspires, motivates and supports others to ‘manage their dependency, access appropriate support (including treatment, Universal Credit, housing services) and move towards employment.’

No Smoking Day: 8th March 2023
No Smoking Day: Smokers unaware that quitting smoking will reduce risk of dementia.
Smokers in City & Hackney are being urged to give quitting a go ahead of No Smoking Day (8th of March).
The annual awareness day encourages smokers to make a quit attempt and this year’s theme is: stopping smoking protects your brain health.
According to Alzheimer’s Research UK, dementia is the most feared health condition for people over the age of 55 – more than any other life-threatening disease including cancer and diabetes. Only 18% of smokers know that smoking causes dementia, compared to over 70% who know that smoking causes lung diseases and cancers.
Key messages:
- Make No Smoking Day 2023 the day you quit for good – you’ve got what it takes!
- Quitting smoking protects your brain health and reduces your chances of dementia
- Getting support really boosts your chances of quitting – you’re up to three times as likely to succeed
Today is the day to stop smoking. Quitting now can improve how you feel both physically and mentally and protect your health. Contact Smokefree City & Hackney on 0800 046 9946 for telephone support and medication to quit. #TodayIsTheDay #NoSmokingDay
Did you know stopping smoking at any age can cut chances of dementia? It’s never too late to quit and feel the benefits of better health, so why not quit this #NoSmokingDay? #TodayIsTheDay smokefreecityandhackney.org

City of London Homelessness and Rough Sleeping Strategy 2023-27
The City of London Homelessness and Rough Sleeping Strategy 2023-27 Public Consultation is now open!
Survey closes on 12 March.
The City of London Corporation has launched a public consultation on its new Homelessness and Rough Sleeping Strategy 2023-27. We want to hear your views to make sure we deliver the best strategy for those who are at risk of homelessness and homeless or rough sleeping.
Our vision is that when homelessness occurs – or is threatened – the strength of our response ensures it is brief, it does not re-occur, it’s impact on the individual and our communities is minimised, and it is prevented where we can act to do so.
The Homelessness and Rough Sleeping Strategy 2023-27 sets out what we aim to do to ensure those at risk of or experiencing homelessness or rough sleeping in the Square Mile are supported by our services and delivery partners in a swift, effective, compassionate, fair and respectful way.
You can view our draft strategy and respond to the survey by visiting www.cityoflondon.gov.uk/services/housing/homelessness-or-at-risk/homelessness-and-rough-sleeping-strategy-consulation – the consultation ends on Sunday 12 March.
What is Homelessness and Rough Sleeping?
Homelessness occurs when someone is at risk of losing the place that they live in and having no home to live in
Rough Sleeping is the most visible and dangerous form of homelessness, where someone is sleeping out on the streets
Support can range from:
- Advice and information on housing
- Mediation with Landlords
- Support for those fleeing domestic abuse
- Legal Advice
- Sourcing temporary, emergency or social housing
- Supporting former members of the armed forces
- Support with benefits and housing support
