Falls Prevention in the City

The FREE Staying Steady programme (based on the Falls Prevention program by Laterlife Training) lasts for 24 weeks and takes place in Golden Lane Community Centre on Tuesdays 11am -12pm. It has been designed for those over 55 years old.

The classes focus on building and maintaining strength and balance to prevent you from having a fall. We work on strengthening the legs, developing a flexible back, improving posture and balance, and building more confidence. We will also provide you with a resistance band and an exercise manual so you can practice some of the exercises at home.

To attend our programme speak to your GP about getting a referral to MRS Independent Living or you could fill in the self-referral form on our website mrsindependentliving.org/staying-steady and email or post it to us.

For more info please contact Charlotte Seirberg Lead Postural Stability Instructor at MRS Independent Living at charlotte.seirberg@mrsindependentliving.org or leave a message on her mobile 07931557173.

Safe and Active in Later Life: Falls Prevention Virtual Event

In collaboration with East London Business Alliance

Learn strength and balance exercises to help prevent falls within the home

Both people in later life, and their families, have informed us that they would like better support to prevent falls. Did you know that falls are responsible for four out of five accident-related hospital admissions among people who are over the age of 65? The good news is that they can be prevented.

Maintaining an active lifestyle, and especially keeping good levels of strength and balance, can help to prevent falls. Simple adjustments to the home environment can also reduce your risk of falling.

With our partners, the RSA Group, and in collaboration with East London Business Alliance, we are pleased to announce that we will be running a free online Safe and Active in Later Life: Falls Prevention Event, on Thursday, October 14, at 1pm.

This free-to-attend event will focus on the role of strength and balance exercises in helping prevent falls, with a demonstration of specialist, evidence based effective exercise lead by Bex Townley from Later Life Training. Professor Dawn Skelton, from Glasgow Caledonian University, will be on hand to answer questions.

Are you in later life yourself? Do you have a family member or work with people in later life? Whichever applies – this event will have something for you!
